Technology Upgradation in Granite Industry Sector
APTDC has been working in the area of granite industry sector for
the past 3 years and has been interacting with industry, institutes,
experts and relevant national & international technology developmental
institutes.
The APTDC understanding
for overall technology upgradation of the sector covers :
o Optimum utilization of granite resources of the nation, by
increased material recovery through scientific quarrying
o Reduction of process wastage by better equipment / spares, calibration,
maintenance etc.
o Productivity Improvement – through reduction in cycle
time by better & cost effective abrasive materials
o Energy conservation (10 % - 15% saving is demonstrated)
o Water / Coolant recycling & proper disposal
o Gainful utilization of waste - boulders / stones / slurry
Energy Conservation
It is to be noted that, the
motor gets loaded only after certain depth of cut and there
is every possibility to conserve energy.
APTDC has demonstrated,
conservation of over 12% of electrical energy in cutting of
granite boulders using Ø 2 meter circular saw (blanks)
in a granite cutting & polishing industry at Tadipatri,
Ananthapur district, Andhra Pradesh.

Gainful Utilisation of
Granite Slurry
Scientific / Systematic disposal of Granite slurry is a problem
world wide. This inert material is responsible for preventing percolation
of water, even rain water and prevents growth of even grass in the
effected lands.
Though this material resembles fine sand, was never used for various
reasons.
APTDC carried out its developmental effort, got the slurry analysed,
identified an industry partner and developed a cement based wall
tile, where in 60% of the sand is replaced with granite slurry.
Efforts are on for testing of the samples & fine tuning of the
technology & product.
Currently APTDC is executing an assignment, supported by BMTPC
(Building Materials & Technology Promotion Council , Ministry
of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Govt. of India), for
its activity in gainful utilization of Granite slurry.

APTDC - Recycling of Plastics - R PET
Objective:
To demonstrate a State of the art PET Recycling plant & its
Techno commercial viability, considering the currentPost-consumption
PET- disposal, collection, segregation, transportation & supplies. Also
to bring about awareness among users & industries on recycling
of PET
The details
of the APTDC assisted PET recycling project
Entrepreneur: Mr. P S Anil Kumar
Name of the Company: Jayanarayana
& Sons Engineers Pvt. Ltd
Brand: Ajay PET
Project Financiers: Andhra Pradesh
State Financial Corporation
Address For communication: Export
Promotion Industrial Park, Pashamylaram. Hyderabad
Current PET disposal &
collection methods in India:
Very less effort has been made to create awareness
and a systematic network for disposal and collection of used PET
bottles.Similar is the case with many other plastics being used
& disposed off. This unorganized disposal of plastics has created
wrong perceptionto environment protection / safe guarding agencies
about Plastics which are environment resource conserving materials.
PET appears to be available in free form as used bottles on roads,
but collection & converting to a usable from is a major constraint. We
are the only company looking for a business solution in the state
of Andhra Pradesh. On the other hand, the PET processing industries.sell
their process waste to collection agents bypassing waste recycling
companies leading to price escalation. This in turn leads to in-sufficient.Availability
of quality materials to the reprocessing industry.
Past occurrences indicates that if this kind of situation is not
eased out the recycling technology innovations will fade.
With tremendous effort the entrepreneur is able to procure road
side waste bottles and scrap to meet part of raw material requirement.Simultaneous
interaction with PET processors & PET product user industries
for lifting scrap at regulated time span, at a substantially better
price. Are yielding positive & reinforcing results.
The onus lies on us to find options and developing our own systems
and practices. With the assistance of CII & APTDCNetwork, the
entrepreneur has indigenously developed part of the machinery thereby
achieving financial leverage. The company now has an established
network for sourcing PET waste in the state of Andhra Pradesh and
other locations in India. The company has also been awarded an ISO
9001 2000 certification.
Effort & Achievement:
Considering the quantities of PET being processed in India, the
associated environmental problems and considering the opportunity
for a recycling project, APTDC entered in to this field, in the
year 2002.
After carrying out substantial survey, APTDC is convinced on promotion
of a technically & commercially viable PET Recycling project
and extended concept to commissioning R PET project iincubation
services.
This first of its kind project in India with state of the art technology
& equipment from Europe coupled with indigenized Machinery has
a recycling capacity of 2000 TPA, with an approximate budget outlay
of Rs.200 lakhs.
Efforts have been made to understand the problem of material, the
project & its potential, technology, equipment, Possibility
of indigenization of part of the equipment to make the project economically
viable. A mixed feedback from various corners of the industry on
entering this field and on the viability of the project havent deterred
us.
By virtue of hands on experience in executing innovative projects
and having great confidence in the expert partners of CII APTDC
and the commitment of the entrepreneur, we have marched ahead and
the project has been executed.
Thanks to this venture, R PET material, of a quality, almost equivalent
to the virgin material, is available at 60% of original cost. The
end product is constantly tested by CIPET, Hyderabad to maintain
the quality and technical specification of the product and researching
for continuous improvement.
Current status :
APTDC has supported the company in breaking the ice on Recycled
PET material and getting the attention of PET processing industry
across the country.
Now the company is supplying R PET to different customers at Delhi,
Indore, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai etc., for non food
grade applications like Bottles, Jars, Sheets, Fiber, strap, zip
fasteners etc.
APTDC, is continuing its efforts to establish successfully working
PET recycling industries in the country thru a collective approach.Involving
experts, machinery manufacturers & users of PET. Interactions
with experts confirms that we have capabilities for alloying R PET
with other materials and make products, of longer lifecycle.
APTDC is attending to various inquires from New Delhi, Mumbai,
Faridabad etc., in promoting this line of industry in the country.
