Technology Upgradation in Granite Industry Sector
APTDC has been working in the area of granite industry sector for
the past 3 years and has been interacting with industry, institutes,
experts and relevant national & international technology developmental
institutes.
The APTDC understanding
for overall technology upgradation of the sector covers :
o Optimum utilization of granite resources of the nation, by
increased material recovery through scientific quarrying
o Reduction of process wastage by better equipment / spares, calibration,
maintenance etc.
o Productivity Improvement – through reduction in cycle
time by better & cost effective abrasive materials
o Energy conservation (10 % - 15% saving is demonstrated)
o Water / Coolant recycling & proper disposal
o Gainful utilization of waste - boulders / stones / slurry
Energy Conservation
It is to be noted that, the
motor gets loaded only after certain depth of cut and there
is every possibility to conserve energy.
APTDC has demonstrated,
conservation of over 12% of electrical energy in cutting of
granite boulders using Ø 2 meter circular saw (blanks)
in a granite cutting & polishing industry at Tadipatri,
Ananthapur district, Andhra Pradesh.

Gainful Utilisation of
Granite Slurry
Scientific / Systematic disposal of Granite slurry is a problem
world wide. This inert material is responsible for preventing percolation
of water, even rain water and prevents growth of even grass in the
effected lands.
Though this material resembles fine sand, was never used for various
reasons.
APTDC carried out its developmental effort, got the slurry analysed,
identified an industry partner and developed a cement based wall
tile, where in 60% of the sand is replaced with granite slurry.
Efforts are on for testing of the samples & fine tuning of the
technology & product.
Currently APTDC is executing an assignment, supported by BMTPC
(Building Materials & Technology Promotion Council , Ministry
of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Govt. of India), for
its activity in gainful utilization of Granite slurry.
